How do I know if I have a valid legal claim?

LegalJelly's AI-powered intake assistant will ask a few quick questions to help identify whether your issue could qualify as a civil legal claim. You do not need to know the law—just describe your situation, and we will help evaluate it.

What types of legal issues can LegalJelly help with?

LegalJelly covers most civil legal issues, including personal injury, workplace disputes, landlord-tenant problems, contract issues, and more. If your case involves suing for money or damages (not criminal charges), we can likely help.

Is there a minimum amount of money involved for a case to qualify?

In general, LegalJelly focuses on claims of $1,000 or more. If your issue is below that, we may still be able to offer guidance or resources.

What happens after I chat with the legal assistant?

After your intake is complete, LegalJelly reviews your information and connects you with a qualified, licensed attorney who is interested in your case. That lawyer will contact you to discuss next steps.

How long does it take to be connected with a lawyer?

Most users are matched within 1–2 business days, though many receive follow-up from a lawyer within hours. Timing depends on your location and legal issue.

Is my information private and secure?

Yes. LegalJelly uses industry-standard encryption and never sells or shares your information with third parties. Your information and conversation are confidential and details necessary for your case summary are shared with the lawyers who may connect with you. Only lawyers who are interested in your case can view your intake summary.

Do I have to pay to use LegalJelly?

No. LegalJelly is completely free for people seeking legal help. You only pay legal fees if you choose to hire a lawyer.

Will a lawyer charge me after I'm matched?

That depends on the lawyer and your case. Some lawyers offer free consultations, while others may charge a fee. You will always be informed before agreeing to anything.

Can I stay anonymous when asking questions?

You can use the intake chat anonymously to get general information. However, to be matched with a lawyer, we need your contact information so they can follow up with you.

What if I don't want to move forward with a lawyer?

No problem. You are under no obligation to hire any lawyer you are matched with. LegalJelly simply connects you with attorneys who may be able to help.

How do you choose which lawyer I'm connected with?

We match you based on your location, legal issue, and the preferences of lawyers in our network. You are only connected with lawyers who actively want to help with your type of case.

Are the lawyers on LegalJelly qualified and licensed?

Yes. All lawyers using LegalJelly are licensed to practice law in their respective states and are in good standing with their bar associations.

What if I don't hear back from the lawyer?

If you do not hear back within two business days, please let us know. We will either follow up with the lawyer or try to match you with a different one.

Can I request a new lawyer if I'm not happy?

Yes. If you are not satisfied with the lawyer you were matched with, you can request another match through our support team.

What should I prepare before speaking with a lawyer?

Have a summary of your situation ready, including dates, people involved, and any documents or photos related to your issue. The more information you provide, the better your lawyer can help.
